Bus Travel

A school bus operates around the residential streets of Forestville.  Students in Years K-2 are eligible for free travel to/from school.  Students in Years 3-6 who live more than 1.6km (radial distance) from the school are also eligible for free travel.  Students who are not eligible for free travel may still use the school bus for a small fee.  The school bus arrives at school (Melwood Avenue) shortly after 8.30am and departs from school (Darley Street) at 3.10pm.

Library

All students have access to the school library each week.  A wide variety of books is available to satisfy the interests and reading abilities of all children.  Students are encouraged to borrow as often as they wish.  Block borrowing of books from the library to the classrooms is provided to enhance quality teaching programs.  Facilities include CD-ROM and internet access on a network of library computers.

Playground Equipment

Children in Years K-2 have access to several exciting items of playground equipment including a slippery dip, climbing frame and a fabulous new pirate ship which was funded by the P&C in 2007.

Thanks to both a huge P&C fundraising effort in 2008, and also to a generous Forestville RSL donation, the children in Years 3-6 now have access to an exciting range of new playground equipment. The extensive range of facilities, which has been designed to cater for all children including students using mobility equipment, provides many opportunities for climbing and balancing as well as imaginative play. Underneath the students are protected by the highest grade rubber softfall which has been professionally kerbed to reduce trip hazard. A top of the line, fully engineered shade structure provides vital sun protection overhead.

Smaller items of sporting equipment (e.g. balls, skipping ropes) are also available for use in the playground.

Sports Facilities

The school has a grass sports oval for soccer, rugby, cricket, teeball and softball and a hard surface netball court.

Book Club

Ashton Scholastic Book Club operates twice a term.  Forms are sent home for parents to order books they wish to buy.  Forms and money are returned to a secure ‘postbox’ in the school administration foyer.  Books are distributed to students to bring  home unless otherwise requested.

Technology

All students have access to the computer room each week.  This well equipped room has networked computers, internet access and an interactive whiteboard.

Interactive whiteboards are installed in several other classrooms throughout the school with plans to purchase more in 2008.

School Canteen

The Canteen (Neptune’s Cave) is a healthy foods canteen, where we serve low fat, low salt and low sugar items. The Canteen is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for morning tea & lunches and Friday lunchtime for sandwiches and counter sales only.  Lunch orders are either placed in a “mail” slot in the canteen door before school or can be ordered and paid for online – a fantastic new facility that is proving especially popular with busy working parents.

Uniform Shop

Items of school uniform are available through our onsite Uniform Shop which is open twice weekly (Mon 2.45 - 3.15pm, Wed 8.45 - 9.15am).  Items can also be purchased via an order form for parents who are unable to get the shop during the opening times. The Uniform Shop is run entirely by parent volunteers and is overseen by the P&C Association.
