Students | Aim High | Give it a go | Encourage Others
To promote and enhance school spirit at Forestville in 2007 we encouraged all students to ‘Aim High’, ‘Give it a Go’ and ‘Encourage Others’.
At the Presentation Day of 2007 awards were presented in each of these three categories. These awards were named ‘Harrys’ after our school cleaner and valuable team member who exemplifies all of these qualities.
The ‘Aim High’ award went to our school concert band which achieved highly during the year and is the flagship for our band program at Forestville. Under the baton of Ms Joanna Armstrong, the band members know what they have to do to achieve good results and their almost 100% attendance rate at rehearsals speaks volumes for their commitment.
Natasha is one of three students at Forestville who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Natasha of Year 3 was recently named the ‘face’ of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Australia. There is no better embodiment of the spirit of ‘Give it a Go’ than Natasha. Only 4 years ago when Natasha enrolled at FPS, she could only walk with a frame. But, with surgery, physiotherapy and determination, Natasha has confounded all of us. She now runs around the playground, she was the most enthusiastic participant at our K-2 Sports Day and is involved in every lesson and classroom activity.
The Learning Support Team, under the leadership of teacher Mrs Christine Beach was the recipient of the ‘Harry’ for ‘Encourage Others’. This team of teachers was chosen, not because this group does any more than any other group of teachers but because they symbolise the way in which all our teachers encourage their students. The Learning Support Team is responsible for assessing and evaluating students’ needs and designing and delivering individual and small group programs which assist students with their literacy skills. The Learning Support Team is now known as The Learning Team because its function is to evaluate data about student progress and make recommendations for ways to improve the learning outcomes of all students.
In 2008 we will continue to encourage the students to ‘Aim High’, ‘Encourage others’ and ‘Give it a Go’.
